Daycare Caregiver (Potty-Trained)

Position Summary

The Daycare Caregiver provides nurturing, attentive, and safe care for our youngest children — potty-trained toddlers ages 1 to 3 — throughout the daycare day. The role centers on health and safety, gentle daily routines (arrival, meals and snacks, rest, hygiene, and transitions), and play-based early learning that builds language, motor skills, and social-emotional growth. Caregivers model and gently reinforce simple Islamic manners — greetings, saying Bismillah before eating, gratitude, kindness, and cleanliness — in a way that is developmentally appropriate for very young children.

Al-Razi is an Islamic school — not a school that Muslims happen to attend. Faith is part of the environment from the earliest years, woven gently into the rhythms of the day. The caregiver works closely with the daycare team and communicates warmly and regularly with families.

Hours: Full-time, within daycare hours of operation (7:00 AM – 6:00 PM), Monday through Friday. Shift schedule set with the Head of School.

Qualifications

Required

• • Experience caring for infants, toddlers, or young children (daycare, preschool, home, or family setting).
• • A warm, patient, and attentive manner with very young children.
• • Ability to actively supervise and lift toddlers, and to stay alert to safety throughout the day.
• • Commitment to supporting an Islamic learning environment and the school's mission.
• • Reliability, punctuality, and clear communication with staff and families.
• • Ability to pass a background check.
• • Authorization to work in the US (we do not sponsor employment authorization).

Preferred

• • CPR and Pediatric First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain it before the start of the school year.
• • Coursework or a credential in early-childhood education or child development (CDA, or in progress).
• • Prior experience in a licensed childcare or daycare setting.
• • Familiarity with North Carolina childcare health and safety standards.
• • Experience working in an Islamic school or culturally diverse environment.
• • Comfort using simple Arabic or Islamic greetings and du'as with young children.

Key Responsibilities

• • Provides attentive, nurturing supervision of toddlers at all times, keeping every child safe and accounted for.
• • Maintains required adult-to-child ratios and follows all health, safety, and sanitation procedures.
• • Leads gentle daily routines: arrival and departure, meals and snacks, hydration, rest and nap, and hygiene.
• • Supports toileting and handwashing for potty-trained toddlers and encourages growing independence.
• • Plans and leads simple, play-based activities that build language, fine and gross motor skills, and the senses.
• • Comforts and reassures children, helping them begin to regulate emotions and practice sharing and turn-taking.
• • Models and gently reinforces Islamic manners — Bismillah before eating, greetings, gratitude, kindness, and leaving spaces clean.
• • Keeps the daycare room, toys, and materials clean, sanitized, and organized throughout the day.
• • Observes each child and shares warm daily updates with families about meals, naps, mood, and milestones.
• • Watches for signs of illness or distress and reports concerns to the lead caregiver or administration promptly.
• • Follows all allergy, medication, and emergency procedures exactly as documented.
• • Collaborates with the daycare team and covers routines flexibly as needed.
• • Participates in school-wide events and professional development.
• • Other duties as assigned by the Head of School.

Faith Expectations

This position does not require the employee to be a practicing Muslim. However, all staff are expected to respect the school’s Islamic mission, support daily prayer and Islamic etiquette in the classroom, and adhere to the dress and conduct standards in the Staff Handbook.
